Problem 1

The splash screen says in red text "This version was released after your maintenance expired."

If your most recent purchase was less than a year ago, your Maintenance is still current. This means there is a mistake in the license key file on your computer.

Solution 1

Most of the time you can fix this by going to Help → Check for Updates, or Application Menu → Check for Updates. Terragen will attempt to update the key file on your hard drive with new data from the server. Wait until it says it has finished checking. It might say there are no new updates, but it might have updated your license key file in the background anyway.

After doing this, restart Terragen, and it will use the updated key file.

If this doesn't work, you may need to try Solution 2 or 3.

If you are using an environment variable (TERRAGEN_KEY_PATH) to override the default license location, jump to Solution 4.

Problem 2

Either:

  • Terragen says there are software updates available but it tells you “Your Maintenance Has Expired.”

Or:

  • You have already checked for updates and restarted Terragen but the splash screen still says in red text "This version was released after your maintenance expired."

If your most recent purchase was less than a year ago, your Maintenance is still current. This means there is a mistake in the license key file on your computer.

Solution 2

If you are using an environment variable (TERRAGEN_KEY_PATH) to override the default license location, jump to Solution 4, otherwise try the following steps.

You may need to download a new key file from our website. To do this: - Log into your account at https://planetside.co.uk/my-account - For your most recent purchase, click on "View Details and Downloads". - Click on "Key File (tg4key.lic)". This takes you to a page called "Key File for Terragen 4". It will ask you for License Key from your purchase confirmation email (32 letters and numbers). If you don't have this email you can find the License Key in your account by going back to the table of purchases, clicking on "View Licenses" for your most recent purchase, then clicking on the yellow key icon. - Follow the instructions on the key generator page to install the new key file.

Problem 3

You have downloaded a new key file from the website and tried to install the key file (tg4key.lic), but Terragen still tells you that your maintenance has expired even though your maintenance is up to date.

Solution 3

If you are using an environment variable (TERRAGEN_KEY_PATH) to override the default license location, jump to Solution 4, otherwise try the following steps.

There might be an old key file on your hard drive which Terragen is unable to replace, perhaps because of file permissions. In this case you will need to delete the old key file yourself and then replace it with the new one.

On Windows, navigate to this folder:

C:\Users\<YOUR-USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Planetside Software\Terragen 4\

On OS X, navigate to this folder:

/Users/<YOUR-USERNAME>/Library/Application Support/Planetside Software/Terragen 4/

If there is a file called 'tg4key.lic' in there, delete it. Then copy the new file you downloaded into this folder. Make sure the new file has the exact name tg4key.lic

Solution 4

If none of the previous solutions work, then Terragen is probably reading a key file from another location. There are two possibilities. Either you have a key file in the Terragen 4 application folder or you are using an environment variable (TERRAGEN_KEY_PATH) to override the default location. In both cases the solution is to update the key file at that location. Bear in mind that Terragen cannot auto-update key files that are in the application folder or in non-standard locations set by the environment variable, so the next time you renew your maintenance you will have to repeat these steps.
