Active Development of Terragen To Resume, and Mac Release Imminent

October 16, 2002

I am pleased to announce that active development of Terragen will resume this month. We are pushing forward development of key new features, and we are now in a position to release new versions and updates more frequently. Many long-awaited features and bug fixes are in the pipeline and will be released over the next 12 months.

A big portion of our release plan for the next 12 months involves features that were developed for a limited audience and have been previously unavailable to the public. We now have the go-ahead to release certain portions from these withheld versions at various times over the next year. As a team, we have also begun new development that addresses specific voids in Terragen's capabilities when compared with other landscape renderers. Object import and instanced object rendering are the first of these, specifically geared towards integrated vegetation rendering and ecosystem generation. We will announce details and schedules at a later date.

Terragen for the Apple Macintosh (TG Mac) is expected to enter public beta testing within a month. TG Mac also contains new features that do not yet exist in the Windows version. Most notable of these is an OpenGL real-time 3D preview. We will integrate this and other new features into the Windows version over the next 3 months. For more information about TG Mac, please visit http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/mac/ or contact Jo Meder, jomeder@planetside.co.uk

I am still working for Digital Domain and will continue to do so until October 2003. However, Jo Meder and John McLusky are pushing forward with new development, and I remain involved on a part-time basis until I am able to re-focus my efforts entirely on the public version of Terragen. The bulk of my work at Digital Domain for the next 12 months will directly benefit future Planetside Software releases.

The Planetside Software development team is Matt Fairclough, Jo Meder and John McLusky. Jo Meder is the lead Mac developer. Technical support and public relations are led by John McLusky and Jo Meder.

We will post more details over the coming weeks.

Matt Fairclough
