September 2002
Coelum, September issue, page 54, Italy
A full page image of Mars by Mario Rossi is featured
in the Italian astronomy magazine Coelum.
If you follow the previous link, the image is the second one below the table of contents. You can also see
the image in the wallpaper section of Mario's site, Space Graphics.
Although the actual image is rendered in Lightwave, the surface map was rendered in Terragen from
MOLA data of Mars. The image shows what Mars might look like if it were flooded, and used Sean O'Malley's
SOPack water transparency plugin. A wallpaper version
of the image, as well as the surface map and other items are available from Mario's site.

Kees Veenenbos rendered a number of images
of Mars for an article in Science Magazine called "Safety Versus Science
on Next Trip to Mars". He rendered overhead views of the projected landing sites for the Mars Exploration Rovers
2003, NASA's next mission to Mars. Kees used newly released MOLA ( Mars Orbital
Lasa Altimeter ) DEM data for the terrains, which he converted to Terragen's terrain format using
3DEM. You can view the article at the
Science Magazine website ( free registration required ), or you can see
the images on Kees' site.
