Went with Hanne's masked image card object method.
Now I have an issue with the spotlight.
Atmophere samples 64, density 10.
Spotlight strength 2000
falloff 2
Soft shadows 9
spec highlights on
glow in atmo on
Render MPD 8 AA 8

Thank you for many kind words.

Yes they are v2. I also tried v3 clouds for altocumulus, however, as far as my try and error, I couldn't obtain good result. (and got increased rendering time :P)

Cyphyr, attached is a render with valley clouds with RSFS enabled.
This also looks good to me, but I wanted little bit more brightness on the cloud so I need to tune the lighting tab ;)

Yes, that's where I got into trouble too; multiple cards.

I like the feel of this. Jacques Cousteau. ;)
I have an underwater scene on my to do list for my current project. They are tricky to get right as so much of the ocean is just ocean. You have a good sense of scale here.

I tried to use this method for populations. Unfortunately there is a known transparency issue in glass- or watershaders. If I have more than four (infinitely thin) planes with a glass shader behind each other, the fifth one will render quite dark where it is occluded by the other four planes. See image below.

It's a pity that we need to use a glass shader to get some transparency falloff at the moment. But it's on Planetside's to do list as far as I know. Right? Right?  ;) ;) ;)

Great starts, the second is particularly promising, ditto Dune's comments.

Excellent start - wonderful mood and lighting. Really looking forward to seeing where this goes.

It is the hard to read small image on the lower right:

I searched too the first time. The webdesign could be better.

Amazing, René! I agree with the others about some details, but this looks already fantastic. The only thing that I am missing and that would make the image even more realistic imho is some sort of color refraction. I don't know how this is called, but it's the look similar to chromatic aberration. I remember Ulco tried to create something like that for his own underwater scene.
