Hey,
Have anyone tried to create a fire effect in TG? A fire on a very miniscule scale, a flame on a torch to be precise, is what I am after. All suggestions are welcome!
Depending on your usage, you may just use an image map (with transparency) of a fire (if obtainable), and then apply a luminosity value to it to get it to 'glow'.
Theoretically, you could create a great effect of flame on torch by utilizing carefully crafted cloud layers (localized, of course) and a lightsource.
Short answer: no. ;)
Oh, I just love your short answer. ;D
I did not think about image map with transparency but it sounds fine. Finding the actual image may be the biggest trouble.
I also thought about using clouds but the torch flame is just too tiny. It is how big - 20, 40 centimeters? :) I'm not sure if the cloud layer will be able to handle this. Besides, the flame will be spherical, unless noise is stretched.
Yes, I did. In this thread I explained how i did it:

Try this file, I approved and tested it when I Moderated Freestuff at Renderosity

Ahh, great! Fantastic stuff Bobby! This should do nicely with just minimum processing in PS.
I'm still thinking about a tiny, glowing displaced sphere though... but the shape... ::) Probably won't work too good.
