Title: Turn All Objects Off
Post by: jaf on June 09, 2017, 06:07:35 PM
On the Objects panel, there's a button called "Perform an action."  It has several options to turn bounding boxes on/off, etc.  How about a "Turn Objects/Populations On/Off"?

There are many times when working a scene, where I have a lot of objects, but wish to simple "tune" the terrain and do a high quality render without the objects/populations generation and rendering.  A simple on/off option would be nice (I can do it using a text editor script, but then the scene has to be reloaded each time an on or off is made.)

Or maybe there's an easier way to do this?

Well I'd never noticed that "Perform an action" button before!

Depending on what you mean by "off" there are two ways to do this. To turn off object visibility (or change from wire frame to shaded or textured) you can press the small cube above the preview window.
To turn all objects completely off select them either individually or drag a marque about them and press d.

Another option is top create a new group, call it "Imported objects" maybe and place all your objects and populations in there. Then right click on the top bar of the group and select "Capture nodes". Now when you click on the top bar of the group and press d all the nodes will be disabled.

Hope this is what you meant and is helpful.

I should have wrote "option to enable/disable all objects."

Yes, the "marque/press d" would work.  I forgot about that.  Thanks!

I think the distinction between default objects and imported objects might make such an option a bit unclear ("turn off all imported objects"?). It's nearly as quick just to use the marquee selection, or have a group setup for your imported objects.

This does give me another thought though, which is that perhaps although the Planet and Background nodes are both objects, it may not make the most sense to have them in the "Objects" group by default. Not sure there are other circumstances where this would be an issue, but if for example they were in their own group, then all imported objects would already be going into the Objects group which you could easily enable/disable... Something for us to think about...
