Open a new TGD.
Add a surface layer
Expand heightfield shader and add a heightfield modifier (eg. adjust vertical)
Expand heightfield shader and click on the added modifier.
move it up

Doesn't crash for me.
Confirmed. It seems to happen with fewer steps - just create the heightfield modifier and move it up and down a few times. We'll look into it.
