Hows this. I had the reflection detail at Default as in the top one but upped it to 10 for the bottom. The camera os 2.3meters above the water, like on a boat's deck, as opposed to the aircraft of some sort I was shooting from originally. I seem to favour the sky view for some reason.

You're welcome Bobby. What I would do now is lower camera until a meter or so above water level, and reduce translucency on those bushes (?). What I see here in the reflection of the clouds sometimes troubles me as well, the grain looks much more pronounced in reflections than in the actual clouds. Would that have to do with subdivision settings (being 0.25 instead of near 1)?

Might it be the Softness in the replacement Reflective shader I replaced the Water's with?...I could cut that down...I sorta thought that myself. I'll look into that and try dropping the camera 'bout a  meter or so from the water. I hadn't touched sub D settings; will also look into that.

Actually a very cool setting, Bobby. But please build up those stones by yourself and don't just drop in some tgc. They need more definition. If you blow the stones up (I think it's in those stones, as I once told Bob how to get them rounder), add a XYZ shader after that pf for a next tiny pf and will most probably get you finer detail, which you otherwise can't have.

Heh heh, was just killing time Ulco(awaiting comment on the other piece to go forward on) as I wasn't really serious about this as an original piece but the response has been so nice in the 3 places I've posted it that I will act upon your advice and add one of my own fakestone creations. You shared the rounder stone Idea with the forum quite some time back and it's often part of my fakestone pipeline...
Terragen Support / Educational license questions

I have a couple questions about the educational licence I got for Terragen 4. 
  • Am I allowed to enter into Terragen competitions?
  • How many computers can I have running Terragen?  I'm trying to make a render manager and currently no more than 2 have been rendering at the same time.
  • Can I give someone my image and have them use it in a project (game specifically) where they might make money?

One more thought.
I believe that having used two suns with same position but differing soft shadow settings (cyphyr's recently posted idea) makes its own contribution to an odd look, giving a different spacing and values of umbra and penumbra than Terragen normally produces.

 It could be that more unusual or complex shadows like that tell our brains that "this is studio or indoor lighting" because lighting by what amounts to two different value suns is not what we are used to seeing outdoors on Earth, but in a studio any combination is possible with multiple lights and reflectors, etc.
