Title: The magnificent two
Post by: DocCharly65 on November 10, 2016, 01:19:00 AM
Guess, which movie score I had in my brain when I had this idea...  :)
Of course the original score would need a mexican ambience - but I just had this feeling when I heard the music last time.

It seems that this will be the last new scene for this year. And in the film it will be a bit more simplified because of fast camera movement as flying on horses  :)  Rendertime with 8 h. extremely high because of the 3 layers of the new TG4 Clouds. I hope to get the finished right eye pic tonight for my stereoscopic 3D collection :)

The how to do:
Daniils erosion shader and a simple powerfractal for the background bushes/trees + two fakestone shaders in the forground
Two layers of the great groundcovering grass collection by Chris + some of his grass patches
Some flowers and oaks from xFrog and a bit of dry reed
The old abandoned house from 3Dregenerator (TF3DM)

Very nice, almost touching with the two comrades traveling  :) The other five are lagging behind  :P If this will be a fast shot, I indeed doubt that you'd need the heavy (but really nice) castellanus clouds, or the erosion. Makes it lots faster!

Thanks Ulco :)
Perhaps they are on the search for the other 5?  :)

In fact the rendertime wil decrease down to app. 30-45 min per frame in 1280x720 Detail 0.4 AA3.
Unfortunately the background is sharper and longer time seen as the foreground, so I will delete maximum one of the castellanus layers.

Here is an earlier test with motion blur:

(I changed the background mountains later because I didn't like this version)

The bigger challenge will be the Robots in the motion blur scene.
Rendering them seperately will not be an as easy solution as in my Viper in the desert animation.
Here they are sometimes covered by motion blurred grass in the foreground. so it will be a challenge to find the ideal combination of renders and masks.

Looks nice Nils.

In my animation project Oshyan reminded me of the "Image file processor" node.
I haven't used it. But blurring in post in that kind of way could be helpful maybe.
You could control the blurriness amount for example without any rerendering.
Composing might be easier maybe too without blur in the original images etc.

I looked a little around but couldn't find much info about it.
The blur you get is 2D blur so far i know with that method. For 3d blur you have to use it at render time.

Thanks  :)

Kadri, thanks for the suggestions. I will have to play with that and do some tests.
About the Image file processor I don't know anything so far -- time to increase knowledge  ;)

But that must wait until the other running animations are finished. But for today I finished the promised 3D Anaglyphic version:

I wish all of you a nice Easter weekend...

And for those who can't wait -  a little next chapter in my film project.
and ... some cloth for the protagonists:   ;)

...after "Old Mac Screw" had attached the Rifle on the magnetic scew at his arm, he and "Little Big Ball" broke up to wiggle into the sunset...

[attach=1]

...and instead of the usual anaglyphic 3D today we have a look at a first raw previsualization.
I hope it's ok , not to open an additional post in the animation sector.

First time that I used a moving pop with only one R2D2 with full lean effect. Happy that it worked after many experiments.
Music is just an online converted midifile...

Have fun :)

Thanks :)

In the final animation bb8 will lean his head into driving direction on increasing slopes and watch a bit around.
I think that will look a bit more dynamic.

The last days I prepared some variaions and details for overall 4 animations of the "magnificent two" scene.

First I wanted a kind of slight war paint on BB8's head. An additional shader with the paintings as alpha mask and a little displacement to let it look a bit like really painted:

[attach=1]

And here comes the (expected) last frame of the whole scene. Unfortunately I had to exchange the beautiful easy clouds by older V3. But with the NWDA's Sky Starter Pack I could find a quick and beautiful setting:

[attach=2]

The oak leaves and all the flowers have extrem high tranclucency settings for the look I wanted.

In the coming weeks I will twiggle agound with the animation.
I am still not sure if the rotation of BB8's ball is adaequate to the movement because the speed is changing during the animation.

I calulated the rotations for the whole path: path / 2 × π × r
Then I calculated the relation between the moving direction and the rotation and got something like this:

[attach=3]

Additionally I learned to get a secure and correct drop on the ground I must use the origin position (x=0 and z=0) of the object within the population area.

Cool. Nice lighting and a big improvement on the hippie robot  ;) It's really a character now!

Thanks all, but I had to do some more work on the scene after I tried to get my big stereoscopic 3D version.

The scale of the oak and the robots didnot fit at all so I played around for a while.
Also I needed many trys until I found a position of the oak in the left front where you don't see too many rectangular branches or flat leaves.
Now the scene is final and will be rnedered (in 1280x720 of course) like this (frame 1):

and the 3d anaglyphic version for red-blue glasses:

Terrific. So blur is TG? Then watch out for the black lines when doing GISD as well.

Looks great, Nils. And very natural!

I'd say for this image you wouldn't necessarily need GISD (if you already did, you're lucky, none of the artifacts visible)
