Title: My first project
Post by: Artice-3d on August 11, 2016, 10:33:50 AM
Hello, here is my first project (i'm new terragen child  ;D), it's unfinished yet, but this what i've got now   8) ;D ;)  Don't judge me too hard  ;)   My next steps will be, vegetation variation, some rocks in water, arc, clouds...
Special thanks to Dune and other guys, i learnt so much from them  ;) 8)

P.S. Teaser - my second project i'm working parallel is cliffs... it's just a begining ;))

-Best regards, Artice

The rock strata, fracturing and pit marks look fantastic. The colors are nicely oxidized and is very believable all throughout.

Hello! My research in new workflow terragen + Clarisse... I'm really amazed of what Clarisse can do itself  and in cooperation with other software.. My first attempt to learn is below..  Terrain (terragen) + cloud (houdini)..  It's just firs step, but i'm pretty impressed what i can do..  Big enviroments with waterfalls and animation with pretty ease..   :o 8)

If those are made within TG it's an awesome technique. I guess you used your vector displacement for this, just noticing your other post. Great stuff, but please give us some insight in the rock formation part.
Title: Re: My first project
Post by: cyphyr on January 07, 2018, 04:25:36 AM

This technique is an order of magnitude over what I've seen created in terragen alone!
I guess this really narrows down the field for the Cliff challenge! (joke!)
Title: Re: My first project
Post by: Tangled-Universe on January 07, 2018, 05:41:43 AM
I suppose you are using Houdini for the base shape and export those to VDM?

There's more to it though, since (according to Matt, because I asked him last year) VDM does not allow for closed loops/open holes and thus true arches are not possible.
Unless the base houdini mesh had an "arch" at its side or top and you rotated the whole thing in TG.
Title: Re: My first project

I suppose you are using Houdini for the base shape and export those to VDM?
------------------------------
Yes and no  ;D  I used cinema4d and houdini, but vdm i exported from houdini!!
-----------------------------
I didn't rotate shape in terragen.. i used other technique  of "arch" at its side without any rotation
----------------------------
I wish terragen have an ability to create caves and holes with VDB stuff...  VDB+microdisplacement = awesomeness !!  ;D  ;)
A long time awaited vertical strata +rectangular noise = is too an awesomness  ;D ;D ;) 8)
----------------------------
Dune, i'll give you a little tips a bit later i promise!!!  :o ;) ::)

So this comes into Terragen as an image map displacement, or object? OUTSTANDING!

So how are the arches done?
Two planets or a plane and a planet?
Please tell us.
Title: Re: My first project
Post by: Dune on January 07, 2018, 11:52:11 AM
You can do a lot with a bunch of cubes stacked in a certain rough shape, then apply the same displacement setup to all. Vdisp will then be a little trickier, however.
Title: Re: My first project
Post by: Artice-3d on January 07, 2018, 11:53:27 AM
Thanks Kadri!!  ;)   j meyer - Arches is a vector displacement  8) ;)
Title: Re: My first project
Post by: Artice-3d on January 07, 2018, 11:55:47 AM
Dune i can't use cubes in a rough shapes, because terragen doesn't love rough edges at all  :-\
Title: Re: My first project
Post by: Dune on January 07, 2018, 11:58:54 AM
I meant 'rough' as in roughly stacked. But the cubes can be made with softer edges, and they will 'catch' that displacement.
Title: Re: My first project
Post by: j meyer on January 07, 2018, 11:59:20 AM
I know about your VD experiments, but with VD alone it`s impossible
as Martin (Tangled-Universe) pointed out already.

I meant 'rough' as in roughly stacked. But the cubes can be made with softer edges, and they will 'catch' that displacement.
------------------------------
I tried this stuff already with no success!! Edges need to be too soft for displacement  :-\  So it looses it cubes shape.. i thought to make rectangular as possible, bit for now terragen can't handle such stuff, you know that  :-\ ;)  I even tell you more, my base VD shape is complete from cubes  ;D ;) but it's a secret..  ;)
------------------------------
Arch-is a vector displacement, but with extra stretch from sides.. that's all  ;) 8)  nothing to hide.. ;D :o
------------------------------
But..... Terragen can handle textures not bad, so if developers will make a rectangular noise texture, like in vue it will be a game changer  ;) 8)
Title: Re: My first project
Post by: Dune on January 07, 2018, 12:11:30 PM
I have to experiment a bit again, apparently  ;) Maybe vdisp works with a stack of cubes anyway.....

Title: Re: My first project
Post by: cyphyr on January 07, 2018, 12:24:32 PM
Hmm so is the VDM camera projected?

I'm thinking the basic work flow is to create a rough shape in C4D (I guess any 3d modelling program would work) and import that into Houdini where you create a normal map and then do the weird magic of flattening and "loosening" the object with the normal map attached.

The VDM is then imported into Terragen and ... well that bit don't make any sense to me since I've tried using VDM's in Terragen with no success.

I don't see how the map can store information to displace laterally at a certain height.

Scratch that I have no clue lol

Are you using the PLE version of Houdini?

Great work I say again :D

The most important work i do in cinema 4d... Than i export it to Houdini and create magical VDM, not normal map, it's the other story  ;)  Than i import to Terragen and do terrain magic !  ;D ;)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I thought you had found a 'secret' in TG  ;) Nice sculpts anyway.

Thanks Dune, but just one thing - it's not the sculpts!! It's a completly procedural stuff!! That's why it's so valuable!!  ;D ;)  Because it 's easy, fast, direct art ready, fun!!!!  ::)

Sooo, it's procedural in C4D not TG4?

Yes,  bobbystahr, sadly, but terragen can't create such things, so i found solution in other softwares!!  ;) 8)

Totally legitimate  Artice-3d, I myself use Imagine 3D for PC(.iob) ever since Amiga days actually and export the parts as .lwo to convert and re-assemble in PoseRay...

germanobanano, yep, i wanted to create it in houdini first, i even found some tutorials of rocks creation in houdini, but after i experemented in cinema 4d a little bit, i understood that i will create it in cinema 4d, beacuse of ease to use and flexibility.. One of main reason also was  - procedural noises.. Cinema 4d has the most wide range list of noises to make some cool stuff, with mograph and particles it's unstoppable!! Houdini even more flexible, but quiet difficult to create even simple stuff, but of course it's just my opinion.. I want more freedom to create something, not to think a lot about how to do that, and this is where cinema 4d is really shines and it's the most stable software i ever learnt!!!!  It's not a promo for cinema 4d, it's i little bit about my workflow!!! Clarisse IFX is super cool software to rendering and texturing!!! Main reason i use it because of it can handle trillion polygons on the fly and i can see results emmediatly!!!  The disadventage - quiet difficult to learn and understand, but now it's much easier lo learn!!! I almost every day try new technics to make it even cooler!! For exsample yesterday i found how to do terraced rocks, and after some experiments, i will do a complete image like this, i posted below!! it is my earlier experiment, but it was fun to do!! Now my latest experements are far better and i'm glad i always found new ways to do interesting stuff, it makes me even more excited about how many ways i have to create things i imagine!! A bit later i will buy new PC and will explore new heights!! I' m glad i'm here, because of you guys and may be girls  ;D  i'm trying harder, i'm inspiring form you and from talented peoples, i'm so thankful for that!!!  ;D ;) ;)
