Title: Forum downtime for maintenance this week
Post by: Oshyan on February 22, 2012, 08:24:51 PM
Hello all, we will be performing some maintenance on the Planetside forums tomorrow evening (Thursday the 23rd), around 8PM Pacific Time. Because a server move is involved, it may take up to 48 hours for maintenance to complete, however it will likely be much less than that, depending on DNS propagation time. During the maintenance period, the forum will be inaccessible and a maintenance message will be displayed. If you visit the forums and do not see this message, then maintenance is complete and you can feel free to login and continue as usual.

Once the upgrade is complete, you may notice template changes and some possible new features, as well as reorganized controls and functions. We're working on an upgrade to Simple Machines Forum version 2.0 and if we can get it into this maintenance window, then things will be quite different, but should be an overall improvement. Hopefully the adjustment period for all of you will be short. The fundamentals of posting and browsing the forums should remain the same.

Postponed! As many of you probably already guessed, things did not go quite as planned. I'm hopeful that it will all come together "tonight" (Friday the 24th), around the same time, 8PM. But we'll see. We will notify if there are any further changes in plan.

How did this go?  You all set?

Heheh, guess I should have updated this. We had to postpone, so it hasn't been done yet. Coming soon though. I'll update this thread when we're ready to go, and it will again involve a bit of downtime.

OK, we're back on schedule for some website down time within the next 72hrs. If you come to the forums and see a maintenance message, just come back a few hours later and it should be up. Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Maintenance should now be complete on the forums. We're now running SMF 2.0, the latest version. Some features may be missing, but most have been added back already (enhanced search and in-line images, mainly). We'll be working on bringing the rest back as soon as possible, but the core SMF 2.0 functionality should be an improvement regardless.

There are likely to be some rough edges and kinks still to work out. Feel free to report issues in this thread, however keep in mind the fact that some plugins (such as per-board RSS feeds) is still missing, as noted. We're also aware of a possible issue with certain attachments (that may be related to a missing plugin) where they open in a pop-up and require a download rather than displaying in the browser window.

Do you see Calico's avatar Oshyan? It is very big-high here on Firefox and Chrome. Explorer does have not this problem.

Oshyan, when i try to look at some images they go to save as mode without showing the image at all.
The ones who should show in another window.
Firefox , Chrome and Explorer are all problematic on my side.

Yes I agree. I use this as a learning tool—much searching. Thank you.

Same here on Chrome. Also, attached images are not displaying in new posts for me, I tried to post inline full size attachments in the cloud library and they displayed as download links too. I edited the post and set the images to end of post thumbnails in the meantime.

I keep getting a HTTP 406 error when trying to post a new pic. I tried I.E. and Chrome.

Yeah, as I mentioned above we're aware of this issue. Not yet sure what's causing it, but it appears to do with how the file is attached to the post. We do have a new "in-line attachments" mod that's better than the previous one and allows you to more easily embed images in the post as well as switch the display style around. Hopefully people will use that more.

I too like this layout, very modern and not as 'cluttered'.

But login doesn't work very well in Opera. I enter my names, press enter (which I always did), and I get a second login screen because it was wrong. Even if I type in the names and press login, it doesn't work and I get the second screen.

Nice theme. How do you manage to update the database? Somewhere I read that you went into problems with updating the large database.

I love the new site theme and setup, if it matters.

If you have saved passwords for the forum in your browser, you should clear them and re-enter. That might help the double-login issue. Also clear your cookies, if you haven't already done so.

We did get the database updated, we had some problems initially, but we eventually determined that it seemed to be due to some/all of the plugins we were using. Once those were cleared out, it went pretty smoothly.

I never save passwords and always clear cookies, but it still doesn't work. I now copied the second address as my first link, so bypassing the main page. Works 1 second faster ;-) until it's solved.

It should be redirecting, but in case it's not, the forum is actually moved now to www.planetside.co.uk/forums.

Somthing is different on this new forum. Now when i click on an image, not the type that will enlarge in the post it self, but the new window one, It wants to download to my pc. It used to just open fine in the new window on the old forum.
A bit annoying to start up the image viewer when i look at the pretty pictures... :o

Any idea what is changed, and how I/you can fix this ?  ???

But apart from that, it looks so mutch bether than the old one. Nice job guys.

Yes, we've seen this problem too, but strangely enough it's not on every image of that type/style. We haven't figured it out yet, but looking into it.
