Spacecraft integration into virtual 3D city model

Hi all,

This is a test I did using a 3D model of a spacecraft integrated into a virtual 3D model of Melbourne CBD, Australia.

All the animation, lighting, water and atmospheric effects are done using TG3.

What do you guys think?

I also added some bump mapping used the displacement texture map for the spacecraft.

pretty great little sequence you did here!  8)

Perhaps a Vimeo release of this? For some reason Youtube stopped in the middle. It stopped each time I tried, and then started playing again. Not a big deal I guess, but it does take away from enjoying your work.

My only complaint is that I want more. I feel like there should be more cuts in the sequence. And while yes, I know this is not a editing and finishing forum, and yes, while I do like the straight TG. Why not throw in some more edits, rack focus, motion blur, ect? Like I said, I want more! I love this stuff!

Yeah, really nice. This photography based 3D setup is quite something. But the accompanying sound is a bit over the top I'd say. Subtle is more convincing.

Thanks for the feedback. I'd love to spend more time on it and I will when I have the time.  Agreed with the sound, I had the same feedback and will change it right now.

Bravo!

It's hard to be critical of a better person's work, but, since you asked:
The pitch and roll in the turn is nice—very believable. But, it seems there is jump in time as you cut to the final approach to the buildings because the craft is at a level attitude then. Maybe a cross-fade or some other "hollywood" type of thing to show the time jump.

Also, I'd play with the curves in the animation keys to make the deceleration of the craft more like a fast subway or train. You know, space aliens spilling their cappuccinos all over the console. And, I always thought visitors would first meet at Flinders Street Station?

Just out of interest, how big (or small) was the model used compared with the original data?  I've seen most of the other videos by Aerometrex before this. Nice to see some freakin' awesome 3D data from my backyard  :)

Hi Bigben,
The 3D model of Melbourne I used for this video is a 2.5 GB Obj file (about 20 millions faces).
The original 3D model is 36 GB and more than 280 millions faces which is not easy to handle...
